A permanent addition to my wardrobe is much more valuable than some quest reward item I'm going to wear for a few levels and then sell to a vendor. So I guess appearance isn't that important to me in EQ2 (though appearance gear doesn't squelch the flakes anyone). But in LOTRO, I have several sets of appearance gear (LOTRO let you have 2, and you can toggle between showing one of them or your true gear). I'm not sure why I worry about it in one game but not the other. It may just be because I roleplay (by which I mean my inner monolog is speaking from in that world) more in LOTRO, whereas when I'm in EQ2 I'm often paling around with Angela so I play it more like a game? I've always been the sort of player/raider that will min-max only to a certain point. Eventually style must prevail. When I was raiding in EQ2 many moons ago I picked loot based on look. During "Classic" Ferrel was so unique looking and well matching (top tier silver plate that was more for tanks than templars) people would stop to look. More than once a day someone would asks, "How do I get that stuff?" I dislike games that allow dyes or over use textures. It is more important to me that I stand out than be the absolute best stat wise. That is one reason why I wish raid gear was just slightly better than anything else but looked unique. I run into the "too many games not enough time" pretty quickly these days so unless work sicks me on it to write about I'll probably have to pass up playing. Things change though, so who knows! Its full of strongboxes stuffed full of appearance gear LOL! I cant go a month without changing my appearance and if I see another character that looks remotely close to the way I do I'm headed to the nearest banker. I was after that same shield out of OOA myself. The shiney purple one with overloaded heal if I remember correctly. Seen it drop once when TSO first came out, have yet to see it drop again and I've run that zone a million times since. I honestly think they've removed it, that's the only reasonable explanation I can come up with.
